NOTICE REGARDING USE OF DROP BOXES FOR ELECTION MATERIALS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that beginning on April 13, 2022, Absentee Ballot Boxes, aka ballot drop boxes (“Absentee Ballot Boxes”), will no longer be used in Lincoln County. The discontinuance of the use of Absentee Ballot Boxes will apply to all remaining elections in 2022 including, but not limited to, the primary election, general election, school elections, run-off elections, and any special elections.
Notwithstanding the prohibition set forth above, the Auditor may reinstate the use of such Absentee Ballot Boxes in the event the Lincoln County Administration Building is ordered closed by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners during any period in which absentee voting is permitted pursuant to SDCL Chpt. 12-19, other provision of state law or administrative rule.
In all future elections, registered voters may still vote by absentee ballot by requesting an absentee ballot from the County Auditor and then submitting the voted ballot to the County Auditor by mailing the ballot to the County Auditor’s office, delivering the ballot to the County Auditor’s office in person or by having someone deliver the ballot for you to the County Auditor’s office. South Dakota also allows for absentee voting in person, at the Auditor’s office, ahead of the elections.
