PUBLIC NOTICE LINCOLN COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION VACANCY
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners hereby gives notice that one seat, District 3 representative, on the Lincoln County Planning Commission is open for application. District 3 is described as starting at the corner of West 57th Street and South Western Avenue and heading south along South Western Avenue to West 95th Street, then continue south for 893.86 feet, then turn west along the south boundary of Harrisburg School 2nd Addition property, then turn north for 376.54 feet, then turn west for 1,282.13 feet, then turn south for 375.83 feet, then turn west to South Louise Avenue, then turn north to 95 Street, then turn east for 1,325.44 feet, then turn north for 657.95 feet, then turn west for 879.82 feet, then turn north for 635.02 feet, then turn west to South Louise Avenue, then turn south to West 93rd Street, then turn east for 45.66 feet, then turn south for 235.11 feet, then turn west for 4,153.21 feet, then turn north for 396.95 feet, then turn west to South Tallgrass Avenue, then turn south to 272 Street, then turn east to 472 Avenue, then turn south to 273 Street, then turn west to I-29, then turn north along I-29 to West 57th Street, then turn east to the starting point. Residents of District 3 who would like to serve on the Planning Commission are encouraged to apply.
The Planning Commission assists the Board of County Commissioners in reviewing and analyzing development proposals and in implementing the county's zoning and subdivision ordinances. Planning Commission members also act as the Board of Adjustment (BOA).
The Planning Commission reviews rezoning, platting, conditional use permits, and when acting as the Board of Adjustment (BOA), reviews variances. The Board of County commissioners makes final decisions concerning rezoning and platting applications and considers appeals of Planning Commission decisions.
The Planning Commission typically meets on the second Wednesday and third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Canton. They may hold additional workshops and special sessions during the month as needed.
Qualified persons interested in being considered for this appointment should submit a letter of interest noting reasons for wanting to serve on the Planning Commission and any pertinent qualifications (education, experience, etc.) to the Lincoln County Auditor at 104 N. Main Street, Suite 110, Canton SD 57013. Letter of interest must be received on or before Friday, March 3, 2023.
