LINCOLN COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION VACANCY
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners hereby gives notice that one seat, District 2 representative, on the Lincoln County Planning Commission is open for application. District 2 is described as starting at 2,490.32 feet east of the end of 273 Street, headed south along the eastern boundary of Lincoln County to the southeast corner of Lincoln County, then turn west along the southern boundary of Lincoln County to the southwest corner of Lincoln County, then turn north along the western boundary of Lincoln County to the northwest corner of Perry Township, then turn east to South Dakota Highway 115, then continue east 2,618.83 feet, then turn south for 2,723.29 feet, then turn east for 1,322.19 feet, then turn south for 2,072.67 feet, then turn east to Cliff Avenue, then turn north along Cliff Avenue for 162.00 feet, then turn east for 1,952.10 feet, then turn south to 274 Street, then turn east along 274 Street for 682.09 feet, then turn north for 1,940.16 feet, then turn east for 115.09 feet, then south 70 feet east of the railroad along the curve of the railroad to 274 Street, then east along 274 Street for 1,128.89 feet, then south for 674.65 feet, then turn east to 476 Avenue, then turn south along 476 Avenue for 1,620.39 feet, then turn southeast for 420.35 feet, then turn east for 4,594.51 feet, then turn northwest for 378.80 feet, then turn north for 159.78 feet, then turn east to 477 Avenue, then turn north along 477 Avenue for 29.23 feet, then turn west for 730.48 feet, then turn north for 1,072.10 feet, then turn west for 1,937.77 feet, then turn north to 274 Street, then turn west to Southeastern Avenue, then turn north along Southeastern Avenue for 1,765.11 feet, then turn east for 245.50 feet, then turn north for 231.11 feet, then turn west to Southeastern Avenue, then turn north along Southeastern Avenue to Maple Street, then continue north for 349.67 feet, then turn west for 658.89 feet, then turn north to Willow Street, then turn east long Willow Street and continue on 273 Street to the start point. Residents of District 2 who would like to serve on the Planning Commission are encouraged to apply.
The Planning Commission assists the Board of County Commissioners in reviewing and analyzing development proposals and in implementing the county's zoning and subdivision ordinances. Planning Commission members also act as the Board of Adjustment (BOA).
The Planning Commission reviews rezoning, platting, conditional use permits, and when acting as the Board of Adjustment (BOA), reviews variances. The Board of County commissioners makes final decisions concerning rezoning and platting applications and considers appeals of Planning Commission decisions.
The Planning Commission typically meets on the second Wednesday and third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Canton. They may hold additional workshops and special sessions during the month as needed.
Qualified persons interested in being considered for this appointment should submit a letter of interest noting reasons for wanting to serve on the Planning Commission and any pertinent qualifications (education, experience, etc.) to the Lincoln County Auditor at 104 N. Main Street, Suite 110, Canton SD 57013. Letter of interest must be received on or before Friday, June 23, 2023.
